Definition and Examples of Real Decision Support System (DSS)

Assalamualaikum, this time didieuwae article will explain about the Decision Support System (DSS). Hopefully it can be useful to our knowledge all.

In the process of technology management is very helpful in the process of a manager's job, because it creates a Decision Support System (DSS). Decision Support System (DSS) is a system aimed to simplify or speed up a manager in making a decision. DSS is a computer-based information system that supports business and organizational decision-making.

DSS 1971, DSS term itself was created by G. Anthony Gorry and Michael S. Scott Morton, both MIT professor. They feel the need for a framework to direct computer applications to management decisions and develop what has become known as the Gorry and Scott Morton Grid.

As the name implies DSS or Decision Support System achieved the goal of DSS is to help managers to make decisions in solving semi-structured problems. Also increase the effectiveness of decision making managers.
In order to successfully achieve its goal, the system must:
(1) Simple
(2) Easy to control
(3) Adaptable
(4) Complete on important matters
(5) Easy to use

In decision making, there are several steps - steps that must pass before taking a decision.
1. Intelligence = activities to recognize the problem, need or opportunity
2. Design = ways to solve problems / needs
3. Choice = choose the best alternative decision
4. Implementation is accompanied by the necessary supervision and corrections

Components on the DSS, namely:
1. Data Management. Including databases, which contain relevant data for a variety of situations and is set by software called Database Management Systems (DBMS).
2. Model Management. Involve financial models, statistical, management science, or other quantitative models, so as to provide a system to analytical capabilities, and management software is required.
3. Communication (dialogue subsystem). Users can communicate and give orders to the DSS through this subsystem. It means providing the interface.
4. Knowledge Management. This optional subsystem can support other subsystems or act as stand-alone components.

Examples of DSS is to treat the East Sumatera
The main road network in East Sumatera island formed by three main roads that cross the East, Central and West Crossing Cross. On the Road East Sumatera, many roads are in poor condition, mild and severely damaged the potentially disconnected at any time.

Progressive damage that occurs due to the delay in the handling of repairs and limited funding. During the handling of East Cross Road is done manually so that the necessary systems assist handling of information in making a decision.

Finally, because the development of technology creates applications LTDSS (East Crossing Decision Support System) is an application of the Decision Support System (DSS) for handling the East Sumatera. This application was created by using Visual Basic 6.0, Ms Access 2000 and Crystal Reports 8.5.

LTDSS applications require input in the form of a data segment, the data section, condition data, traffic data, planning data and cost data. The process is carried out referring to the MAK (Component Analysis Method). The output of the allocation of funds for each province and type of road handling for each segment as well as can be seen from the road serviceability of age were reviewed. This application is more like a GPS, but over-specified for Sumatra.

A second example of the DSS are DSS applications for increased productivity 3-star Hotels in Surabaya using AHP and OMAX Productivity or comparison between input and output is one tool that is influential in determining the profitability and competitiveness of the company.

Hotels need to take measurements of labor productivity in order to survive and compete in the efficiency and effectiveness of the other hotels.
Based on the problems faced, then there needs to be a system that can assist in measuring the labor productivity of the existing departments.

The application of such a system is a DSS application using process Analytical Hierarchy (AHP) for weighting and Objectives Matrix (OMAX) for the measurement of productivity. The results of the application made is in the form of information about the criteria that influence the performance of the hotel. So that it can assist a manager in making a decision.

A third example of DSS is an application for credit worthiness proposal of Bank Rakyat Indonesia, now because of the large companies and entrepreneurs who apply for credit to the bank making the bank should further improve the quality of service to customers.

For example: Giving Credit where BRI Bank Rakyat Indonesia to give credit to the debtor but through a process that must be passed. Successful lending will bring huge profits for banks. Therefore BRI to be really cautious in extending credit. Before you extend credit to a prospective debtor, BRI must first assess the feasibility of credit proposals.

With the development of computer technology in the field of information systems dirancanglah an Advanced Decision Support System (Specific Decision Support Systems) SDSS designed with a quick (Quick Hit) and interactive approach.

The design of the SDSS (Specific Decision Support Systems) software using Clipper 5.2 as Tools DSS or DSS equipment.
Based on the results of testing the system, it can be concluded that the application of the SDSS is very helpful and facilitate the decision-makers in assessing the feasibility of duty credit proposals.
